Asisat Oshoala is the 2019 African Women’s Player of the Year

Asisat Oshoala, Nigeria Super Falcons’ Captain was named as the 2019 African Women’s Player of the Year on January 7, 2020, during the CAF Awards in Egypt.

Oshoala, who plays for Spanish side Barcelona, beat Ajara Nchout of Cameroon and South Africa’s Thembi Kgatlana, who was crowned in Senegal last year to claim the title.

It is the fourth time the 25-year-old is being crowned the best African female footballer.

She won the award in 2014, 2016 and 2017, and was also among the final three in 2018 but lost to her South African rival Kgatlana.

Asisat has been a key Nigeria Female player. Her career had been outstanding: Liverpool (2015), Arsenal (2016), Barcelona (2018 till date).

Trophies she has won include FA Women’s cup (2015/2016), African Cup of Nations (Ghana 2018),   Copa Catalunya Femenina (2019). Runners up in UEFA Women’s Champions League (2018/2019), Primera Division Femenina (2018/2019) and U-20 female World Cup (Canada 2014).
