Homicide in Nigeria is on the increase. Several couples have settled scores in the past years by homicide.
Man allegedly known as Femi stabs wife to death, commits suicide in their home at Lekki, Lagos.
The incidence took place at Victory Park estate Lekki in Lagos, Nigeria on Sunday, June 21.
Residents of the estate noted it has been three weeks since the couple moved into the estate with their two young children. The much some neighbours know about the couple before the homicide on Sunday is that they were spotted jogging together on Saturday. However, it was also gathered from a close neighbour that Femi has always questioned the paternity of their second child.
Hearing a loud noise from the couple’s apartment on Sunday afternoon that lasted for hours raised neighbour’s concern. They had to go to the estate office to complain about the loud music and requested that estate officials go there and caution the couple.
When the estate authorities went to the couple’s compound to appeal to them to turn down the volume of the music. Young girl with the couple’s children suspected to be the victim’s sister was upstairs with the authorities to inform the couple of the complaint. After several knocks without response, the sister and the estate officials decided to pull the door down. They were marvelled to see the man and wife dead.
It was suspected that the man may have killed his wife. The woman’s legs and hands were bound and her mouth shut with a sellotape. The husband may have used a clipper to shave her hair, stabbed her head, her eyes, stabbed her multiple times with different knives. The knives were there.
Two bottles of snipper found there suggested that after stabbing his wife to death, he committed suicide by drinking sniper’. He was also foaming through the mouth.
Police spokesman, Bala Elkana who confirmed the incidence to newsmen when contacted. He said homicide detectives have sealed up the place and have commenced an investigation. The corpse of the man and the woman have been moved to the hospital for an autopsy.
