Nigeria Beat Cameroon 3-2 to Qualify for AFCON Quarter Finals

The Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated Indomitable Lions of Cameroon 3-2 to qualify for AFCON 2019 quarterfinals. The match was played with lots of tension at Alexandria Stadium, Egypt.

Gernot Rohr’s statement that his team will prove to Nigerians fans that the defeat in the hands of Madagascar is a mistake came to pass.

The super Eagles and Indomitable Lions have not been fantastic in their campaign at the group stages. The two teams scored 2 goals each to reach the knock out stage of the African Cup of Nations 2019.

Predictions by soccer fans were difficult on the two teams without good scoring abilities. Moreso the formation of both teams is the same, 4-2-3-1.

However, the match turned out to be very exciting with 5 goals at the final whistle.

It was Kanu Nwankwo vs Samuel Eto’o as both were seated side-by-side watching the match in the VIP. The celebration took turns between the two African football legends when each side scores.

Omeruo assisted Ighalo in the 19th minutes of the game to open score for Nigeria. The Indomitable Lions did not relent, they run Nigeria team down through the midfield to weaken the defence. The efforts yielded a result as Bassogog assisted Bahoken in the 41 minutes to push the ball behind the net of the Super Eagles.

Lack of confidence in the Super Eagles defence made Njie get a second goal at 44th minutes from a long pass from Bahoken. Just three minutes after the equaliser.

The second half saw the Super Eagles with renewed strength. Musa’s fantastic chest pass sets Ighalo free to score again at 63 minutes of the game.

Just as pay back the Super Eagles got the third goal at the 66 minutes of the game as Ighalo’s pass made Iwobi to slot goal number three for the Super Eagles. Just three minutes after the second goal.

The Indomitable Lions pressed hard for an equaliser but Super Eagles became more conscious and defence minded in the game. Gernot Rohr pulled Iwobi out in the 91 minutes for Leon Balogun.
