Presumptive Testing Runs Down the Economy – Prof Ben Ayade

Ben Ayade, the Cross River State Governor tells Channels Television Sunrise Daily that “Presumptive Testing runs down the economy”. Prof Ayade condemns “follow the west syndrome” and urged Nigeria to learn how to manage the COVID -19 according to Local considerations. Prof Ben Aayade is of the view that demand for Testing kits are going higher with the presumptive tests.

Cross River and Kogi state are the only states in Nigeria without COVID-19 Index case. But the NCDC Boss, Chikwe Ihekwazu attributed “a no index case” in Cross River and Kogi as a matter of not testing enough. He says that performance cases of the two states are due to not testing enough.

However, the Cross River State governor has a different view. Prof Ben Ayade says the presumptive testing is not reliable, costly and leads to lots of wrong information as has been the experience in Nigeria.

While giving the situation report of the Cross River State he noted that Cross River State closed their illegal and legal borders on time, and maintaining 24-hour surveillance. He says moderation and development of the local standard is the key.
