The Academic Staff Union of the Universties (ASUU) has expressed concern over January 18 resumption date. ASUU considers the feasibility based on the second wave of COVID-19 stressing that the federal government has not put any measure in place for safe resumption.
Considering the number of students in Nigerian Universities’ lecture halls, ASUU fears the fast spread of COVID-19 if the common precautionary measures of handwashing, sanitizing, and social distancing are not taken care of. The overcrowded students’ hostels and other extra-curricula activities on the campuses cannot be overlooked while considering resumption on January 18.
The chairmen of various chapters of ASUU had expressed these concerns in a meeting on Sunday. The federal government is yet to respond to the concerns of ASUU at the time of filing this report.
