Two Nigerians Jailed For Cybercrime Against Two Americans

Godspower and Solomon Nwachukwu were sentenced to three years imprisonment each on Monday for cybercrime Against Mathew Scott and Janet Allen respectively, at the Federal High Court of Federal Capital Territory, sitting in Bwari, Abuja.

The separate count charges read, ” That you, Godspower Nwachukwu sometimes in April 2016 at Abuja within the jurisdiction of this honourable court fraudulently induced one Mathew Scott, a citizen of the United States of America to deliver $1,900 to you through  bitcoin online payment and thereby committed an offence contrary to  Section 320(a) of the Penal Code, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 1990(Abuja) and punishable under Section 322 of the same law.”

” That you, Engr Nwachukwu Solomon sometimes in April 2016 at Abuja within the jurisdiction of the court, fraudulently induced one Janet Allen, a citizen of the United States of America to deliver N230,000 to you via www.linkedin.command thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 320(a) of the Penal Code, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 1990(Abuja) and punishable under section  322 of the same law.”

They both pleaded guilty to the charges and were sentenced to three years imprisonment each with an option of N1.5 million fine to be paid to the EFCC for onward return to their victims through the US Embassy, as restitution by Justice I.U. Bello.

Justice Bello added that the defendants shall also depose to an affidavit of undertaking to be of good behaviour.
